What should material per part include?
Enter the estimated material in one finished part before the waste allowance. A slicer estimate or measured historical use can provide a starting point.
What belongs in the waste and support allowance?
It may include supports, skirts, brims, purge material, drainage losses, failed prints and handling waste, depending on the process.
What waste percentage should I use?
There is no single percentage suitable for every job. Use recent measured production data when available and adjust for geometry, supports, material changes and process reliability.
Why should I include failed prints in the allowance?
If failures are an expected part of production, their material consumption affects the amount of feed required to complete the order.
Does the calculator round material feed to a spool size?
No. It estimates material weight. Compare the result with available packaging sizes and stock separately.
Costs, revenue and margin

What is included in total production cost?
It includes calculated material cost plus the labor and overhead amount entered per part, multiplied by quantity.
What can be included in labor and overhead per part?
Depending on the business method, it can include direct labor, machine operation, electricity, finishing and allocated operating overhead.
Is gross profit the same as net profit?
No. Gross profit here excludes unlisted costs. Net profit may also reflect administration, rent, shipping, taxes, payment fees, financing and other expenses.
Are sales taxes included in revenue?
No. Revenue is calculated from the entered sale price before sales taxes, discounts and payment fees.
What does a negative gross profit mean?
It means the included production cost is higher than expected revenue for the entered inputs.
