What does this commercial 3D printing calculator estimate?

It estimates a comparative quality score, material use, material cost, machine print time and direct unit cost for one printed part.

Who is the calculator useful for?

It is useful for production teams comparing proposed FDM-style settings during early job planning and costing.

Is the quality score a formal quality standard?

No. It is a comparative 0–100 planning indicator and is not a certification, inspection result or tolerance specification.

Inputs and calculation method

How key settings affect the estimates.

What volume should I enter?

Enter the finished model volume from your CAD package or slicer, rather than the printer build volume or outer bounding-box volume.

Why does the calculator add 20% to infill?

The added allowance estimates material used by perimeters and top and bottom layers. The combined fill ratio cannot exceed 100%.

What does the support and waste allowance cover?

It can cover supports, brims, purge material and routine production losses. Select an allowance that reflects the planned workflow.

How is print time estimated?

The calculator converts nozzle diameter, layer height and average speed into an estimated volumetric rate, then applies a 75% effective-flow factor.

Cost and production planning

What is and is not included in direct unit cost.

What should the machine hourly rate include?

It can include the operating costs your business allocates to machine time, such as energy, maintenance, depreciation and overhead.

What does setup and finishing time include?

It may include preparation, loading, part removal, basic cleanup and inspection. Enter the time appropriate to the intended workflow.

What is excluded from direct unit cost?

The estimate excludes profit, packaging, shipping, taxes, major post-processing and other costs not entered as machine or setup labor.

Can the result be used as a customer quote?

It is best treated as a preliminary input. Confirm material, slicer time, finishing needs and other commercial costs before relying on it for pricing.

Reasons actual production results can differ.

Why might the slicer show a different print time?

Slicers account for detailed paths, travel moves, acceleration, cooling, retractions, wall speeds and printer-specific limits that this planning model does not simulate.

Does a higher score guarantee better-looking parts?

No. Appearance also depends on material, cooling, extrusion calibration, orientation, seam placement, support contact and post-processing.

Does the calculator predict dimensional fit?

No. The printer accuracy input affects the comparative score, but critical fits need measurement, process control and validation prints.
