3D Printing Volume Calculator Examples
Explore worked 3D print volume and filament-weight estimates for rectangular models with different sizes, infill levels, and materials.
These examples use a simple rectangular bounding-box method: multiply length, width, and height, convert the result to millilitres, apply infill, then multiply by density. They are planning examples rather than slicer-based material predictions.

How to Read Your Results
Bounding-box volume describes the full rectangular space occupied by the entered outside dimensions, not necessarily the model's true volume.
Estimated material volume applies the selected infill percentage directly to that rectangular volume.
Estimated filament weight converts the estimated material volume into grams using the selected density.
Use the values to compare rough design options or check whether sufficient filament is available.
Treat a slicer's material estimate as the final planning figure because it accounts for geometry and toolpaths.
Assumptions & Important Notes
- All dimensions are entered in millimetres.
- The model is approximated as a rectangular solid.
- Infill is used as a direct proportion of bounding-box volume.
- The specified density matches the filament material.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use these examples for a non-rectangular model?
They can provide a rough upper-envelope estimate, but irregular models may have much less true volume than their bounding boxes.
Why might an enclosure use more than the calculated estimate?
Enclosures commonly need walls, floors, lids, and top layers that are not represented by an infill-only estimate.
Does a lower-density filament always use less length?
This calculator estimates mass from volume and density. Filament length also depends on the filament's diameter and is not calculated here.
Can I estimate PETG and ABS with the same dimensions?
Yes. Use the same volume inputs and replace the density with the value for the selected material.
