What does a 3D printing yield calculator do?
It estimates grams of filament per part, total material for a batch, and the number of complete parts available from a spool.
Is this a cost calculator?
No. It estimates material quantity. A cost estimate would also need the price per gram or price per spool.
What is spool yield?
Spool yield is the estimated count of complete parts that can be printed from the usable filament weight.

How to choose and prepare calculator inputs.
Where do I find the model volume?
CAD software and many slicers show the volume. If it is shown in mm³, divide by 1,000 to convert to cm³.
What density should I enter?
Use the manufacturer technical data for the loaded filament where available. Density differs by polymer and blend.
What is usable spool weight?
It is the net filament mass available, excluding the empty reel weight.
How should I choose waste allowance?
Use an allowance that reflects expected brims, purges, supports, tuning, and possible small losses for the job.

Why are shell and top/bottom material entered separately from infill?
Infill alone does not represent walls and solid surfaces, so the separate percentage provides a simple extra allowance.
Why does the calculator round spool yield down?
A partial amount of filament cannot produce a complete additional part.
Will the result match my slicer exactly?
Not necessarily. Detailed geometry, wall count, line width, layer height, supports, purge settings, and calibration affect actual use.
Can the calculator show negative spool remaining?
Yes. A negative value indicates that the estimated batch requirement is greater than the entered usable spool weight.

Can I use this for a print farm batch?
It can give an early material plan for identical parts, but production planning should confirm usage with slicer estimates and test prints.
Can I estimate multicolor prints?
Only roughly. Purge towers and color-change waste can be substantial, so a slicer estimate is more appropriate.
Should supports be included?
Include small supports in shell material or waste. For heavy supports, increase the allowance or use the slicer result.
