Use this A/B testing hosting cost calculator to estimate the monthly infrastructure cost of serving an experiment. Enter your monthly visitors, the share included in the test, expected pageviews, page size, bandwidth allowance, overage price and any fixed platform fee.

How it works

The calculator estimates the number of visitors assigned to the experiment by multiplying monthly site traffic by the test traffic percentage. It then multiplies those visitors by their expected tested pageviews and average page size to estimate monthly data transfer. Transfer is converted from MB to GB, compared with the included allowance, and any excess is charged at the entered overage rate. The fixed monthly platform or hosting fee is then added to the estimated overage charge.

Frequently asked questions

Does an A/B test double my hosting bandwidth?

Usually not. In a standard A/B test, each participant is assigned one version, so traffic is split between versions rather than duplicated for every visitor. Extra cost can still arise from larger pages, testing scripts or reduced caching.

What page size should I enter?

Use the average transferred size for the page being tested, including the assets that are normally loaded by a visitor. Your browser network tools, CDN dashboard or hosting analytics may help you estimate it.

Why is the test traffic percentage important?

It limits the estimate to visitors who are actually included in the experiment. A 25% allocation means approximately one quarter of your monthly visitors contribute to the calculated test traffic.

Does this include the cost of building the test?

No. This calculator estimates recurring hosting, platform and bandwidth costs only. It does not include design, engineering, analytics, quality assurance or staff time.

Can caching reduce A/B test hosting costs?

Yes. Effective browser, CDN and server caching can reduce the amount of data transferred and the origin work required. Actual savings depend on your implementation and provider configuration.

What costs may not be included in this estimate?

Depending on your setup, separate charges may apply for requests, CDN services, serverless execution, database activity, image optimization, analytics events and taxes.
