Calculation mode

Choose whether you want to add VAT to a net amount or extract VAT from a gross amount.

Overview

This VAT Calculator helps you work out the tax amount, pre-VAT price, and total price using a chosen VAT rate. You can either add VAT to a net amount or extract the VAT already included in a gross amount.

How it works

The calculator converts the VAT rate from a percentage to a decimal, then applies it to the amount you enter. When adding VAT, it multiplies the net amount by the VAT rate to find the tax and adds it to the original amount. When extracting VAT, it divides the gross amount by one plus the VAT rate to find the net amount, then subtracts that from the gross amount to find the VAT included.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Choose whether you want to add VAT or extract VAT.
  2. 2Enter the amount you want to calculate from.
  3. 3Type in the VAT rate as a percentage.
  4. 4Review the net amount, VAT amount, and gross amount.
