Your Details

Overview

The Alcohol Spending Calculator helps you estimate how much you spend on alcohol over time using your average drinks per week, typical cost per drink, where you usually drink, and any extra weekly alcohol-related costs. It is useful for budgeting, reducing discretionary spending, or comparing the cost of drinking at home versus drinking out.

How it works

The calculator multiplies your average number of drinks per week by your average cost per drink to estimate base weekly spending. It then adds any extra weekly alcohol-related costs to give a total weekly spend. Monthly spending is estimated by multiplying weekly spend by 52 and dividing by 12, while annual spending is weekly spend multiplied by 52. The drinking out share is used to split your weekly total into drinking out and at-home spending.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter the average number of alcoholic drinks you have or buy in a typical week.
  2. 2Add your average cost per drink.
  3. 3Estimate what share of your alcohol spending happens when drinking out.
  4. 4Include any extra weekly alcohol-related costs such as tips, mixers or delivery fees.
  5. 5Review your estimated weekly, monthly and annual alcohol spending.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Alcohol Spending Calculator estimate?

It estimates your alcohol-related spending per week, month and year based on how many drinks you buy, the average cost per drink and any extra related costs.

Does this calculator include drinking out and drinking at home?

Yes. It estimates your total spending and also splits weekly spending between drinking out and at-home purchases based on the percentage you enter.

Should I include mixers, tips and delivery fees?

Yes. You can add those costs in the other weekly alcohol-related spend field to get a more realistic estimate.

Why is monthly spending not exactly four times the weekly amount?

The calculator uses 52 weeks divided by 12 months, which gives a more realistic monthly average than simply multiplying by four.

Can I use this calculator for budgeting?

Yes. It can help you see how regular alcohol purchases add up over time and compare that spending with other budget goals.

What counts as a drink in this calculator?

A drink means whatever unit makes sense for your spending habits, such as a beer, glass of wine, cocktail or other alcoholic serving, as long as your average cost matches it.
