Car Maintenance Cost Calculator
Estimate your annual and monthly car maintenance costs based on mileage, service costs, tires, repairs and other routine upkeep.
Overview
A car maintenance budget can be hard to predict because some costs happen regularly while others show up only occasionally. This calculator helps you estimate monthly and annual maintenance costs using your annual mileage, oil change schedule, service costs, tire replacement cost and a repair budget.
How it works
The calculator estimates recurring upkeep by spreading mileage-based costs across the year. It calculates how many oil changes you need from your annual mileage and oil change interval, then multiplies that by the cost per oil change. It also prorates tire replacement cost based on how many miles a set of tires lasts. Those amounts are added to your annual service cost, repair budget and other maintenance items to estimate your total yearly and monthly maintenance budget.
How to use this calculator
- 1Enter your typical annual mileage.
- 2Add the average cost of one oil change.
- 3Enter the number of miles between oil changes.
- 4Add your expected annual scheduled service cost.
- 5Enter the cost of a full set of tires and the mileage you expect from them.
- 6Include a yearly repair budget and any other maintenance costs to see your estimated totals.

With 12,000 miles per year, $70 oil changes every 5,000 miles, $300 in scheduled service, an $800 tire set lasting 40,000 miles, a $500 repair budget and $200 for other maintenance, the estimated cost is about $163 per month and $1,960 per year.
Frequently asked questions
What does this calculator estimate?
It estimates your car's maintenance and repair budget over a month and a year based on routine service, tire wear, oil changes and other upkeep.
Does this include fuel or insurance?
No. This calculator focuses on maintenance and repair costs only, not fuel, insurance, taxes, registration or finance payments.
Why is tire cost spread across the year?
Tires are replaced only occasionally, so the calculator prorates the full set cost based on annual mileage and expected tire life.
Should I include unexpected repairs?
Yes. Adding an annual repair budget helps create a more realistic estimate, especially for older vehicles.
How accurate is the result?
It is a planning estimate based on the values you enter. Actual costs vary by vehicle type, age, driving conditions, labor rates and parts prices.
Can I use this for a new car or used car?
Yes. You can use it for either one, but used cars may need a higher repair budget if maintenance history or wear is uncertain.
