Energy Bill Calculator

Estimate your electricity cost based on appliance power, daily usage, energy price and billing period.

Your Details

Overview

This energy bill calculator estimates electricity cost from power usage in watts, hours used per day, your unit rate per kWh, the number of days, and any daily standing charge. It is useful for checking the running cost of an appliance or getting a simple estimate of part of your electricity bill.

How it works

The calculator converts watts to kilowatts, multiplies that by daily usage hours to estimate daily kWh consumption, and then applies your electricity rate to estimate usage cost. It also multiplies the daily standing charge by the number of days and adds that to the usage cost to estimate the total bill.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter the appliance power in watts.
  2. 2Add how many hours per day it is used.
  3. 3Enter your electricity price per kWh.
  4. 4Type the number of days you want to estimate.
  5. 5Add any daily standing charge and review the estimated bill.

A 1500 W heater used for 4 hours a day consumes about 180 kWh over 30 days. At 0.30 per kWh, the usage cost is about 54.00. Adding 15.00 in standing charges gives an estimated total bill of 69.00.

Frequently asked questions

What does this energy bill calculator estimate?

It estimates electricity use in kWh and the cost of running an appliance over a chosen period, including an optional daily standing charge.

Do I enter watts or kilowatts?

Enter the power in watts. The calculator automatically converts watts to kilowatts for the energy calculation.

Does this calculator include standing charges?

Yes. If your supplier adds a fixed daily standing charge, you can include it and the calculator will add it to the total estimate.

Can I use this for a whole home energy bill?

You can, but the result is more useful for a single appliance or a simple combined load unless you accurately total all household usage.

Why might my actual bill be different?

Actual bills may differ because of variable tariffs, taxes, meter accuracy, changing usage patterns, discounts, or time-of-use pricing.

Assumptions

  • The appliance runs at the entered power level for the full usage time.
  • The electricity unit rate stays the same for the whole period.
  • Standing charges are applied once per day at a fixed rate.
  • This is an estimate and does not include tiered pricing, discounts, taxes or time-of-use tariffs unless already reflected in your inputs.

Warnings

  • Energy prices and billing methods vary by supplier, tariff and location.
  • This calculator provides an estimate only and should not be treated as a utility bill.
