Your Details

Overview

This Etsy Return on Investment Calculator helps you estimate whether a product or sales period is worth the money you put into it. Enter your average selling price, units sold, product cost, shipping cost, Etsy fee rate, ad spend and other fixed costs to see your estimated ROI, profit and margin.

How it works

The calculator first works out your gross revenue by multiplying selling price by units sold. It then estimates total direct costs, shipping costs and Etsy percentage fees, and adds any ad spend and fixed costs. Net profit is revenue minus total costs. ROI is then calculated by dividing net profit by the investment base, which includes the main costs you put into making and selling the items, and converting that result into a percentage.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter your average selling price per item.
  2. 2Add the number of units sold in the period you want to review.

  4. 4Add your estimated total Etsy fee rate as a percentage of sales.

Frequently asked questions

What does this Etsy ROI calculator estimate?

It estimates your return on investment, net profit, revenue, profit margin and average profit per item based on your entered sales and costs.

What costs should I include in product cost?

Include direct costs tied to each item, such as materials, production, packaging and any per-item fulfillment costs not entered elsewhere.

Should I include Etsy fees as a percentage?

Yes. Enter an estimated combined percentage fee rate that reflects the Etsy selling and payment fees you expect for your sales.

Does this calculator include taxes?

No. Taxes are not included unless you add them into your own cost estimates, so the result is a simplified profitability estimate.

How is ROI different from profit margin?

ROI compares profit with the money invested in selling the product, while profit margin compares profit with total revenue.

Can I use this for one product listing only?

Yes. You can enter values for a single listing, a product line or a full period as long as the figures are all for the same scope.
