Your Details

Overview

A stock profit calculator helps you estimate the gain or loss on a trade by comparing your buy price and sell price across the number of shares you traded, while also accounting for basic transaction fees. It is useful for reviewing completed trades or testing a possible exit price before you sell.

How it works

The calculator first works out your total cost basis by multiplying the buy price by the number of shares and adding the buy fee. It then calculates your net sale proceeds by multiplying the sell price by the number of shares and subtracting the sell fee. Your profit or loss is the difference between net sale proceeds and total cost. The return percentage shows that result relative to your total cost, and the break-even sell price shows the price per share needed to cover both your purchase cost and selling fee.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter the price paid per share when you bought the stock.
  2. 2Enter the price received or expected per share when you sell.
  3. 3Add the number of shares in the trade.
  4. 4Include any buy and sell fees charged by your broker.
  5. 5Review your estimated profit or loss, return percentage and break-even sell price.

Example Calculation

Buy Price per Share

$50

Sell Price per Share

$60

Number of Shares

100

Buy Fee

$5

Sell Fee

$5

Profit or Loss

$990.00

If you buy 100 shares at 50 and sell them at 60 with 5 in fees on both sides, your total cost is 5005, your net sale proceeds are 5995, and your estimated profit is 990.
