Sales Funnel Lead Goal Calculator
Estimate how many leads you need at each stage of your sales funnel to hit your customer and revenue goals.
Overview
The Sales Funnel Lead Goal Calculator helps you estimate how many leads you need to generate to hit a customer or revenue target. Enter your revenue goal, average deal value, funnel conversion rates, and planning period to see the lead volume required at each stage of the funnel.
How it works
This calculator works backward from your revenue target. First, it estimates how many customers are needed by dividing revenue goal by average deal value. It then reverses each funnel conversion stage to estimate the required number of SQLs, MQLs, and top-of-funnel leads. The monthly lead goal is calculated by dividing total leads needed by the number of months in your plan.
How to use this calculator
- 1Enter your target revenue for the period you are planning.
- 2Add your average deal value per closed customer.
- 3Enter your lead to MQL, MQL to SQL, and SQL to customer conversion rates.
- 4Set the number of months in your planning period.
- 5Review the required leads, qualified leads, customers, and monthly lead goal.
Example Calculation
Revenue goal
$50,000
Average deal value
$2,500
Lead to MQL conversion rate
30%
MQL to SQL conversion rate
40%
SQL to customer conversion rate
25%
Planning period
1
Leads needed
667
If your revenue goal is 50000 and your average deal value is 2500, you need 20 customers. With conversion rates of 30% from lead to MQL, 40% from MQL to SQL, and 25% from SQL to customer, you would need about 667 leads in the month.
Frequently asked questions
What does this calculator estimate?
It estimates how many leads, MQLs, SQLs, and customers you may need to reach a revenue target based on your funnel conversion rates.
What is a good overall conversion rate?
That depends on your industry, traffic source, sales cycle, and lead quality. This calculator is most useful when you use your own historical conversion rates.
Why are the results rounded up?
The calculator rounds up because you cannot usually work with partial leads or partial customers when setting targets.
Can I use this for customer count goals instead of revenue goals?
Yes. If you already know your revenue target and average deal value, the calculator converts that into an estimated customer goal automatically.
Should I use monthly or annual numbers?
You can use any planning period as long as your revenue goal and timeframe are aligned. The monthly lead goal will adjust based on the number of months you enter.
Does this include churn or renewals?
No. This version focuses on new-customer funnel targets and does not account for churn, upsells, renewals, or repeat purchases.

Assumptions and warnings
Assumptions
- Conversion rates are applied in sequence from lead to MQL, MQL to SQL, and SQL to customer.
- Average deal value is assumed to be consistent across all closed customers.
- Results are rounded up to whole leads and customers because partial leads or deals are not practical.
- This calculator gives planning estimates and does not include seasonality, lead quality shifts, churn, refunds, or pipeline delays.
Warnings
- This calculator provides an estimate only and should be used for planning, not as a guarantee of sales performance.
- Small changes in conversion rates or deal size can materially change the lead targets.
