Social Media Reach Calculator

Estimate your potential social media reach based on followers, posting frequency, average reach rate and campaign length.

Your Details

Overview

A social media reach calculator helps you estimate how many people your posts may reach over time. By entering your follower count, average reach rate, posting frequency, campaign length and estimated audience overlap, you can get a quick view of both gross reach and likely unique reach.

How it works

The calculator first estimates the reach of a single post by multiplying followers by the average reach rate. It then multiplies that by the total number of posts to estimate gross reach. To estimate unique reach, it reduces the added value of each extra post using the audience overlap percentage, then caps the result at the total follower count so the estimate stays realistic for an existing audience.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter your total follower count.
  2. 2Add your average reach rate per post as a percentage.
  3. 3Enter how many posts you expect to publish each week.
  4. 4Set the campaign length in weeks.
  5. 5Estimate audience overlap between posts and review your projected reach.

Example Calculation

Total followers

Average reach rate per post

15%

Audience overlap between posts

40%

Estimated unique reach

10,000 people

With 10,000 followers, a 15% average reach rate, 5 posts per week for 4 weeks, and 40% audience overlap, the campaign could generate about 10,000 unique reach and 30,000 gross reach.

Frequently asked questions

What does this social media reach calculator estimate?

It estimates the likely reach of a social media campaign based on audience size, average reach per post, posting frequency, campaign duration and audience overlap.

What is the difference between gross reach and unique reach?

Gross reach counts the total reach across all posts, even if some people see multiple posts. Unique reach aims to estimate how many individual people were reached at least once.

Why does audience overlap matter?

Audience overlap reduces the number of new people reached by each additional post because some followers may see multiple posts during the campaign.

Can this calculator estimate paid reach?

It is mainly designed for organic reach estimates. You can reflect paid promotion only if your average reach rate already includes it.

Why is unique reach capped at follower count?

The calculator assumes your reachable audience is your existing follower base unless your entered reach rate already reflects broader exposure.

Assumptions and warnings

Assumptions

  • Results are estimates based on follower count, average reach rate and a simple audience overlap assumption.
  • Unique reach is capped at your total follower count and does not include non-followers unless they are already reflected in your reach rate.
  • Posting performance is assumed to be relatively consistent across the campaign.
  • The calculator does not account for paid promotion, virality, platform algorithm changes or seasonal trends.
