How it works
The calculator multiplies the number of spools by the full spool weight and average remaining percentage to estimate usable filament inventory. It then increases the slicer-estimated print weight by your waste allowance. Dividing usable inventory by this adjusted per-print requirement gives the number of complete prints possible, rounded down. Material cost per print is calculated from the adjusted print weight and the cost of a full spool.

Frequently asked questions
How do I estimate the filament remaining on a spool?
The most accurate method is to weigh the spool and subtract the empty spool, or tare, weight. Divide the remaining filament weight by the original net filament weight to find the percentage remaining.
Should I include supports in the filament per print value?
Yes. Use the total filament estimate from your slicer after supports, brim, raft, purge tower, and other required print settings have been included.
What waste allowance should I use for 3D printing?
A 5% to 15% allowance can be a practical starting point for routine printing. Use a higher allowance for frequent color changes, purge towers, prototypes, or prints with a greater risk of failure.
Why does the calculator round complete prints down?
A partial amount of filament cannot reliably complete another full print. Rounding down shows the number of prints that the estimated inventory can fully cover.
Does the material cost include electricity and printer wear?
No. The cost output estimates filament only. Electricity, nozzle wear, maintenance, labor, machine depreciation, and shipping are not included.
Can I combine different filament types or colors?
Only combine spools if they are interchangeable for the planned print. Different materials, colors, diameters, brands, or condition levels may need separate inventory calculations.
