What should I enter for average listening time per listener?
Enter the estimated total minutes one listener streams during the entire month, not the duration of one session or one track.
What does traffic sent to B mean?
It is the percentage of total estimated listening time delivered at bitrate B. The rest is delivered at bitrate A.
What does 0% traffic sent to B calculate?
It produces an all-A result, so the transfer and cost change versus all A should be zero.
What does 100% traffic sent to B calculate?
It estimates a full B rollout while still comparing that result with the hypothetical all-A baseline.
Can user allocation and listening-time allocation differ?
Yes. If B users listen more or less than A users, an even user split may not create an even split in streamed minutes.
Formula, units, and overhead

How are streamed minutes converted to data transfer?
The calculation converts minutes to seconds, multiplies by bitrate in kbps, applies overhead, and divides by 8,000,000 to estimate decimal GB.
Does the calculator use GB or GiB?
It uses decimal GB, where 1 GB equals 1,000,000,000 bytes. Check whether your provider bills in decimal GB, GiB, or another unit.
What should delivery overhead include?
It can represent transfer not captured by encoded audio bitrate, including containers, manifests, retries, and similar effects. Use observed data when possible.
Why is the same overhead applied to both variants?
The model uses one input for simplicity. If overhead differs materially by variant, calculate separate scenarios using appropriate assumptions.
Costs, baselines, and accuracy

How is estimated monthly delivery cost calculated?
Total estimated decimal GB is multiplied by the entered CDN cost per GB.
What does cost change versus all A mean?
It is the estimated delivery-cost difference between the A/B traffic mix and a month where all listening time uses bitrate A.
Why is my cost change negative?
A negative change means the test mix uses less estimated transfer than all A, usually because bitrate B is lower.
Does the result include CDN request charges, storage, or taxes?
No. The calculation covers data transfer using one blended per-GB rate. Other costs should be considered separately.
How can I improve the estimate?
Use recent observed listener minutes, actual delivered-byte overhead, and an applicable blended transfer rate, then compare the estimate with provider reporting.
How is monthly audio data transfer calculated?
Monthly streamed minutes are split between A and B, converted to seconds, multiplied by each bitrate and the overhead multiplier, then converted to decimal GB.
