Cost of Living Comparison Calculator
Compare estimated monthly living costs between two places using housing, food, transport, utilities and other common expenses.
Overview
Use this Cost of Living Comparison Calculator to estimate how your monthly budget may change when moving from one place to another. Enter your current and expected costs for housing, food, transport, and utilities or other essentials to see the monthly and annual difference.
How it works
The calculator adds together your main recurring monthly costs for your current location and your new location. It then subtracts the current total from the new total to show the monthly difference, multiplies that figure by 12 for an annual estimate, and calculates the percentage change relative to your current monthly total.
How to use this calculator
- 1Enter your current monthly housing cost.
- 2Add your expected housing cost in the new location.
- 3Enter current and new monthly food costs.
- 4Add current and new transport costs.
- 5Include utilities and other essential monthly expenses for both locations.
- 6Review the monthly total, yearly difference and percentage change.

Frequently asked questions
What does this calculator compare?
It compares estimated monthly living costs between your current location and a new one using the expenses you enter.
Which expenses should I include?
Start with regular essentials such as housing, food, transport, utilities, internet, phone, insurance and other recurring costs.
Does it include moving costs?
No. This calculator focuses on recurring monthly living expenses, not one-time relocation costs such as movers, deposits or furnishing.
Can I use this for different cities or countries?
Yes, as long as all values are entered in the same currency so the totals can be compared properly.
Why is housing weighted so heavily?
Housing is often the largest monthly expense, so even a moderate change in rent or mortgage cost can have a big effect on the overall result.
Is the result exact?
No. It is a budgeting estimate based on the numbers you provide, and actual costs may differ over time or by lifestyle.
