Estimate your gross profit, profit margin and break-even sale price for an item sold on eBay.

Your Details

Overview

Use this eBay Gross Profit Calculator to estimate how much profit you keep from a sale after item cost, shipping, eBay fees and optional promoted listing costs. It is a quick way to compare pricing choices and see whether a listing is likely to be worth selling.

How it works

The calculator adds the sale price and shipping charged to find gross revenue. It then estimates eBay fees from that revenue and promoted listing fees from the sale price, adds those costs to your item and shipping costs, and subtracts the total from revenue to estimate gross profit. Profit margin is calculated as gross profit divided by gross revenue, and the break-even sale price shows the sale price needed to cover the included costs and percentage-based fees.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter the item sale price.
  2. 2Add your item cost or sourcing cost.
  3. 3Enter the shipping amount charged to the buyer.
  4. 4Enter your actual shipping cost.
  5. 5Add your estimated eBay fee percentage.
  6. 6Enter a promoted listing rate if you use ads, then review your profit and margin.

Frequently asked questions

What does this eBay Gross Profit Calculator estimate?

It estimates gross profit, total included costs, profit margin and break-even sale price for an eBay sale based on the values you enter.

Does this calculator include shipping charged to the buyer?

Yes. Shipping charged is added to revenue, while your shipping cost is treated as an expense.

Are eBay fees charged on the item price only?

This calculator uses the total amount paid by the buyer for the percentage-based eBay fee estimate, which is a common approach, but actual fee rules can vary.

Should I include packaging and handling costs?

Yes. If you want a more realistic estimate, include packaging or handling costs in your item cost or shipping cost.

What is the break-even sale price?

It is the item sale price needed to cover the included item cost, shipping cost and percentage-based fees so your estimated profit is zero.

Does this include taxes or returns?

No. This calculator focuses on gross profit and does not automatically include taxes, refunds, return shipping or other business overheads.
