How to choose and convert calculator inputs.

Where can I find model solid volume?

CAD software and many slicers report model volume. If the value is in mm³, divide it by 1,000 to convert it to cm³.

What material fill should I enter?

Use a percentage that broadly represents infill plus the expected effect of walls, solid layers, and supports.

What density should I use?

Use the density listed by the filament manufacturer when available. PLA is often around 1.24 g/cm³, but products vary.

Which filament diameter should I enter?

Enter the nominal diameter of the filament you will use, commonly 1.75 mm or 2.85 mm.

How is filament weight calculated?

Estimated material volume, including waste, is multiplied by filament density in g/cm³.

How is filament cost calculated?

The estimated weight in kilograms is multiplied by the entered filament price per kilogram.

Why does diameter affect length but not weight?

Diameter changes how much material each metre contains. The same material volume has the same weight at the same density.

Does the result include supports?

Not separately. Include expected supports in the material fill percentage or waste allowance.

Shell settings, layer height, infill pattern, supports, purge behaviour, and calibration can all change material use.

Should I add waste allowance?

A waste allowance can make an early estimate more practical by accounting for setup losses and other expected extra material.

Does the material cost include electricity and printer wear?

No. It estimates filament cost only.

Can I use this for multi-material prints?

Use separate estimates for each material where practical, and allow for the additional purge and transition waste.
