Should I enter the number of parts I want to print or the number I need to finish?
Enter the number of usable finished items you need. The failure-rate input accounts for additional attempts.
Can I calculate for a partial spool?
Yes. Enter the grams that are realistically usable on that spool, rather than its original labelled weight.

It is the expected percentage of attempts that do not result in usable parts and may need to be reprinted.
What belongs in a waste allowance?

Should supports be counted as waste?
Usually no. If supports are used, include them in the slicer estimate for one item. Use the waste allowance for additional batch-level use.
What failure rate should I use?
Use a rate based on recent results from the printer, material, and model type. If there is little history, test prints can help establish a cautious planning estimate.

Why does the calculator round spools up?
The batch needs enough material available to finish. A calculated need of 1.1 spools means two spools must be available unless usable stock already covers the remainder.
Does estimated material cost equal my purchase cost?
Not always. It estimates the value of filament consumed. Purchasing may require buying whole spools, and prices can include shipping or tax.
What does finished items per spool mean?
It is the whole-number estimate of successful items that one usable spool can support after the selected failure and waste allowances.
Does the cost include electricity and labor?
No. It covers filament only.

How accurate is a filament batch estimate?
It is only as accurate as the slicer estimate and allowances entered. Actual use can vary with calibration, material condition, support changes, and print failures.
When should I recalculate the batch requirement?
Recalculate when changing material, nozzle, profile, infill, layer height, supports, model geometry, desired quantity, or spool size.
Can this calculator be used for multicolor printing?
It can provide a rough estimate, but multicolor purging and tool changes can add substantial material use. Use slicer estimates and a suitable extra allowance.
Is this suitable for large-scale manufacturing?
