How it works
The calculator starts with the slicer-estimated filament weight for one successful print. It increases that amount to allow for failed prints, then adds the selected waste allowance. The adjusted per-item amount is multiplied by the target quantity. The total is divided by usable spool capacity and rounded up to determine how many spools are needed. Material cost is based on the share of spool material expected to be used.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find the filament weight for one 3D print?
Slice the final model using your intended printer, filament profile, infill, supports and adhesion settings. Most slicers show estimated filament use in grams before printing.
Should supports be included in the filament per item figure?
Yes. Use the slicer estimate with supports, brims, rafts and other settings enabled if they will be used for the production print.
Why does the calculator include a failed print rate?
A failed print may use filament without producing a usable item. The failure allowance estimates extra attempts needed to reach your target quantity.
What waste allowance should I use for small-scale printing?
A small allowance such as 3% to 10% can be useful for routine purging, skirts, brims and test pieces. Complex multicolor or frequently changed materials may require more.
Does the material cost include electricity and printer wear?
No. The estimated material cost covers filament only. Electricity, labor, maintenance, packaging and machine depreciation are excluded.
Why are spools rounded up?
You need enough material available to complete the batch. Even if the calculation uses only part of the final spool, the spool count is rounded up for purchasing or stock planning.
