What should I enter as filament weight per part?

Use the best available estimate for one finished part with the intended slicer settings. Do not include the same support or purge material twice.

Can I use the calculator for different filament types?

Calculate each material, color, or diameter separately because stock is only useful when it is compatible with the planned print.

Can I use a partial spool as current stock?

Yes. Enter the estimated grams that are genuinely usable on the partial spool.

What should the waste and failure allowance include?

It can cover supports, skirts, brims, purge material, test pieces, setup losses, and reasonably expected failed prints.

How much waste allowance should I use?

A 5% to 15% allowance can be a practical starting range for routine jobs. Jobs with heavy supports, frequent purging, or uncertain reliability may need more.

Does a slicer filament estimate guarantee actual usage?

No. It is a planning input. Actual use can change with settings, material handling, failed prints, and printer behavior.

Should I add support weight to the calculator?

If your slicer’s total already includes supports and purge material, use that total as the part weight. Otherwise, allow for them through the waste percentage.

What does stock balance after print mean?

It is current usable stock minus estimated total filament required. A negative result is the estimated shortage in grams.

Why are additional spools rounded up?

The calculator assumes spools are purchased as whole units. A 100 g shortfall still requires one spool if that is the smallest available option.

Does estimated purchase cost include shipping and tax?

No, unless you included those amounts in the price per spool. The result is the calculated spool count multiplied by the entered price.

Why does the calculator show zero additional spools?

Your entered usable stock is at least as large as the calculated material requirement.

The stock-planning approach is similar, but this calculator is designed for filament in grams and spool purchases. Resin use and container sizes should be tracked separately.

Is this suitable for production planning?

It can support material planning, but keep a practical operational buffer for important jobs because real consumption and failures vary.
