What does the 3D Printing Volume Calculator estimate?
It estimates rectangular bounding-box volume, an infill-based material volume, and approximate filament weight.
What is a model bounding box?
It is the smallest rectangular space that contains the model, measured by its outside length, width, and height.
Are dimensions entered in millimetres?
Yes. Length, width, and height are entered in millimetres.
What does the material-volume result mean?
It is a simple estimate of how many millilitres of material may be used after applying the chosen infill percentage.

How is bounding-box volume calculated?
The calculator multiplies length by width by height to produce cubic millimetres, then divides by 1,000 to show millilitres.
Why are millilitres used for 3D print volume?
One millilitre equals one cubic centimetre, making it convenient to combine volume with density in grams per cubic centimetre.
How is filament weight calculated?
Estimated material volume in mL is multiplied by density in g/cm³, producing an approximate weight in grams.
How does infill affect the calculation?
The selected percentage is converted to a decimal and multiplied by the bounding-box volume as a simplified material estimate.
Accuracy and print settings

Why is my slicer estimate different?
Slicers calculate actual geometry, perimeters, layer settings, infill patterns, top and bottom layers, and optional support structures.
Do walls count as infill?
No. Walls or perimeters are separate print features, so an infill-only approximation does not fully represent them.
Are supports included in the result?
No. Supports, brims, rafts, purge material, and waste from unsuccessful prints are not included.
Is the result suitable for checking spool availability?
It can be used for an early estimate, but the slicer's material estimate is better for final spool planning.
Does infill pattern change material use?
It can. Different patterns and slicer settings may change material use even when the nominal infill percentage is the same.

What density should I enter for PLA?
PLA is commonly around 1.24 g/cm³, but the manufacturer specification for the specific spool is preferable.
Can I use the calculator for PETG or ABS?
Yes. Enter the dimensions and planned infill, then use the density for the specific material.
Can this calculator estimate resin use?
It can give a broad volume estimate, but resin prints are affected by hollowing, wall thickness, supports, drainage holes, and retained resin.
Can I calculate filament length from these results?
Not with this calculation alone. Filament length also requires the filament diameter and its cross-sectional area.
How do you calculate 3D print volume?
For a rectangular model, multiply its outside length, width, and height. Divide cubic millimetres by 1,000 to convert the result to millilitres.
