What is solid model volume?

It is the volume the object would occupy if it contained no hollow spaces or sparse infill. Enter it in cubic centimetres.

How do I convert mm³ to cm³?

Divide the value in cubic millimetres by 1000. For example, 50,000 mm³ equals 50 cm³.

What does shell and solid-layer share mean?

It is an estimated percentage of the fully solid model taken up by walls, perimeters, and solid top and bottom layers.

Why are shell share and infill separate inputs?

Shells are treated as solid plastic, while the infill percentage applies only to the remaining internal portion. This avoids treating the whole model as sparse infill.

Where can I find filament density?

Check the manufacturer’s technical data sheet or product specifications. Density can differ among materials, blends, and filled filaments.

Why is filament diameter needed?

Diameter is used to calculate filament cross-sectional area, which converts estimated plastic volume into a length estimate.

How accurate is the print weight estimate?

It can be useful for planning when the input volume and shell share are reasonable, but it is less detailed than a slicer calculation based on the actual toolpath.

Why is my slicer weight estimate different?

A slicer accounts for geometry, line widths, wall count, layer height, infill pattern, overlap, and enabled print features. This calculator simplifies those details into shell share and infill.

Are supports included in the result?

No. Support structures, interfaces, brims, rafts, skirts, purge material, and startup extrusion are excluded.

Does the calculation include failed prints or spool waste?

No. It estimates material for the finished model only.

Does infill pattern affect real filament use?

Yes. Pattern choice and slicer settings can change the actual toolpath and material use, even at the same nominal infill percentage.
