How it works
The calculator first finds the mass of all finished parts. It adds support material and purge or setup material based on the percentages you enter. It then increases the required material to account for failed print attempts, so the target quantity of finished parts can still be achieved. Waste is the combined mass of supports, purge/setup material and failed prints. Waste cost combines the value of that material with your per-kilogram handling or disposal cost.

What counts as 3D printing waste in this calculator?
Waste includes removable supports, purge and setup material, and material used on failed print attempts. The finished mass of saleable parts is excluded from waste.
How should I estimate the support material rate?
Use records from comparable jobs where possible. Divide the support mass by the finished-part mass, then enter the result as a percentage.
Why does a small print failure rate increase material demand?
Failed attempts use material but do not produce saleable parts. The calculator adds enough expected failed-run material to still reach your required finished quantity.
Does this calculator include recycled or recovered material?
No. It treats all support, purge material and failed prints as waste. If you recover material, adjust the disposal cost or use the result as a gross waste estimate.
Are machine time and electricity included in the waste cost?
No. The waste cost includes only the entered material cost and disposal or handling cost. Add labour, machine time and energy separately when quoting a job.
