How do I calculate finished part material?

Multiply the required number of parts by the average finished weight in grams, then divide by 1,000 to convert to kilograms.

How should I estimate the support material rate?

Use comparable completed jobs where available. Divide removable support mass by finished-part mass and convert the result to a percentage.

What should be included in purge and setup waste?

Include material such as skirts, brims, purges, calibration pieces and other setup material that does not remain in saleable parts.

Why is the failure rate applied after supports and purge are added?

A failed attempt generally consumes both part material and the associated support and setup material, so the failure allowance uses the full successful-run requirement.

Can I enter a support rate above 100%?

Yes. Some complex geometries can require support mass greater than the finished-part mass. Use actual production records where possible.

What does total material required mean?

It is the estimated total mass needed to complete the required saleable quantity, including supports, setup waste and expected failures.

What does overall waste rate mean?

It is the percentage of total material use that is estimated not to remain in finished saleable parts.

How is waste cost calculated?

The calculator multiplies total waste mass by the sum of material cost per kilogram and disposal or handling cost per kilogram.

Does waste cost include machine time?

No. It includes only entered material and waste-handling costs. Machine time, labor, electricity and overhead need separate estimates.

Why might total material demand exceed my current slicer estimate?

The calculator also includes an allowance for expected failed attempts, which many individual-build slicer estimates do not include.

Does the calculator account for recycled material?

What can cause actual waste to differ from the estimate?
