Can I use the calculator for filament and resin?
Yes. Enter all planned material amounts in kilograms and use a matching cost per kilogram.
What counts as material waste?
Waste can include failed prints, supports, rafts, brims, purge material, calibration pieces, and scrap that you do not treat as usable.
Can a seasonal material amount be zero?
Yes. A season with no planned material use contributes zero to the annual total.

How is waste calculated for a single season?
The calculator multiplies planned kilograms for that season by the entered waste rate divided by 100.
How is annual waste calculated?
It adds the estimated waste from spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
How is estimated usable material calculated?
Usable material equals total planned annual material minus estimated annual waste.
How is the overall waste rate calculated?
It divides annual waste by annual planned material and multiplies by 100.
Why is the overall waste rate not the average of four seasonal rates?
The calculator uses a weighted rate because seasons can have different planned material volumes.

How can I estimate a seasonal waste rate?
Review prior material purchases, print records, discarded material, and usable output for the equivalent period. Divide discarded material by total material used.
Should supports be included in the waste rate?
Include them if your goal is to measure material that does not become part of your usable finished output. Apply the same definition consistently across seasons.
Should I include material that can be recycled?
You can exclude recoverable material if it has meaningful reuse in your workflow, but document the choice so comparisons remain consistent.
What material cost should I enter?
Use an average purchase cost per kilogram that fits your planning purpose. Include or exclude shipping and taxes consistently.

Why might actual waste differ from the result?
Actual results can vary with storage, humidity, temperature, printer condition, slicer settings, part geometry, post-processing, and operator changes.
Can seasonal conditions affect printing waste?
They can. Changes in ambient and enclosure conditions, material handling, and reliability may affect outcomes, but the size and direction of the effect varies by setup.
Does waste cost include labor or machine time?
No. It only estimates the purchase value of wasted material based on the entered cost per kilogram.
