How it works

The calculator estimates the material-filled portion of the model by combining the solid shell share with the infilled interior. It estimates support material separately, then adds both volumes and multiplies the result by material density to calculate weight. Finally, it applies the waste allowance and multiplies kilograms used by the entered material price. Because slicer paths and machine processes vary, this is best used as a planning or preliminary quoting estimate.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a 3D model's volume?

Most CAD programs and slicers can report a model volume. Use the volume in cm³ before infill, shells and support settings are applied.

Why does infill not equal the final print weight percentage?

Walls, top layers and bottom layers are often solid, so they use more material than the infill percentage alone suggests. The solid shell volume input accounts for this.

Should supports be included in a commercial print estimate?

Yes. Supports, rafts, brims and purge material can be significant, especially for complex parts. Add their estimated volume and density where applicable.

What material density should I use?

Use the value from the supplier's technical data sheet when possible. Typical densities differ by material, formulation and moisture content.

Does the estimated cost include print time and labour?

No. The cost output covers raw material only. Add machine time, energy, labour, maintenance, finishing, packaging and overhead separately for a full production cost.

How much waste allowance should I use?
