Estimate your monthly and annual living costs in a country based on housing, food, transport, utilities and other everyday expenses.

Your Details

Overview

A country cost of living calculator helps you estimate how much you may spend each month and year in a new location. Enter your expected rent, groceries, transport, utilities, healthcare, other expenses and net income to see your likely budget position.

How it works

The calculator adds together your main monthly living expenses to estimate your total monthly cost. It then multiplies that amount by 12 for an annual estimate. If you provide monthly net income, it also subtracts your costs from income to show your remaining monthly and annual balance, and calculates what percentage of your income goes toward living costs.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter your expected monthly rent or housing cost.
  2. 2Add your estimated monthly spending on groceries, transport, utilities and healthcare.
  3. 3Include other regular monthly expenses such as entertainment, phone bills or clothing.
  4. 4Enter your expected monthly net income.
  5. 5Review your total monthly cost, annual cost and the balance left after expenses.

Frequently asked questions

What does this country cost of living calculator estimate?

It estimates your monthly and annual living costs based on the expense categories you enter, and can also show how much income you may have left after those costs.

Does this calculator compare official country cost of living indexes?

No. It is a personal budgeting tool based on your own expected expenses rather than a published cost of living index.

Should I use net income or gross income?

Use net income if possible, because it better reflects the money you actually have available to cover living costs.

Does it include moving or relocation costs?

Not automatically. One-off costs such as flights, deposits, visa fees or furniture are not included unless you add them into your other expenses.

Can I use this calculator for different cities in the same country?

Yes. It works well for city-level estimates too, as long as you enter realistic local costs for rent and other spending categories.

Why might my actual cost of living be different?

Real costs can vary due to neighborhood, lifestyle, household size, exchange rates, inflation and seasonal price changes.
