What does the Seasonal 3D Printing Inventory Calculator estimate?
It estimates a peak-season reorder point, target inventory level, safety stock, peak weekly demand, and a batch-rounded replenishment quantity.
What items can I calculate?
Calculate one inventory item at a time, such as a specific filament type and color, resin bottle size, nozzle, packaging item, or finished product.
What should I enter as current usable inventory?
Enter stock available for production or fulfilment. Exclude damaged, reserved, expired, missing, or otherwise unusable units.
What does peak demand uplift mean?
It is the percentage by which demand in each peak month is expected to exceed a normal month. A 50% uplift means peak-month demand is 1.5 times normal-month demand.
Demand and seasonality

Does the calculator add peak demand on top of annual demand?
No. It redistributes the entered annual demand across normal and peak months. The annual total remains the same.
Why does a longer peak season change normal monthly demand?
If the annual total is fixed, more or stronger peak months leave less of that total to be spread across normal months.
Can I use the calculator for more than one peak season?
The inputs model one combined number of peak months at one uplift rate. For separate peaks with different uplift rates, use separate scenarios and compare the results.
What if demand is not evenly spread during the peak?
Use a more conservative uplift or additional safety-stock days if that fits your planning assumptions. The calculator uses an even weekly peak-demand estimate.
Reorder points and replenishment
Questions about the main stock thresholds and ordering output.
What is the difference between reorder point and target inventory?
The reorder point covers expected peak use during supplier lead time plus safety stock. The target inventory also includes expected use until the next stock review.
Why does review period affect the target but not the reorder point?
The reorder point is the order trigger. The review period adds stock needed before the next opportunity to review and replenish, so it affects the target level.
Why is the suggested order rounded up?
It is rounded up to meet the entered supplier pack size or minimum batch. This avoids ordering less than the calculated inventory gap.
Does the suggested order include goods already on order?
No. Adjust current inventory to reflect reliable inbound stock, or reduce the suggested order after considering open purchase orders.
Accuracy and planning limits

How accurate is the result?
Accuracy depends mainly on the annual demand forecast, seasonal uplift, supplier lead time, and inventory count. Treat it as a planning estimate and review it against actual data.
Does safety stock guarantee that I will not run out?
No. Safety stock is a chosen buffer. Unexpected demand spikes, delivery problems, quality issues, or counting errors can still create a shortage.
Does the calculator include storage capacity or material shelf life?
No. Check whether the target quantity can be stored appropriately and whether materials have handling or shelf-life constraints.
Should critical materials have more safety stock?
The calculator allows a larger buffer through safety-stock days. The appropriate setting depends on the impact of a stockout and the uncertainty in supply and demand.
What is a seasonal reorder point for 3D printing inventory?
It is the peak-season inventory threshold for placing an order. It includes expected demand during supplier lead time plus a safety-stock buffer.
