What costs are included by default?

The calculation includes material cost and machine operating cost. Other costs are excluded unless represented in the machine hourly cost.

What print time should I enter per part?

Enter the estimated printer run time for one part or print attempt, excluding the batch-level setup time.

How does the failure rate work?

The calculator divides the required finished quantity by the expected success rate. For example, a 10% failure rate uses a 90% expected success rate.

Should material per part include supports?

Include any material you expect one print attempt to consume, such as part material and relevant supports, rafts, or purge material.

Why is material converted from grams to kilograms?

Material price is entered per kilogram, so total grams are divided by 1,000 before calculating material cost.

Does setup time get divided by the number of printers?

No. Setup time is treated as a batch-level activity and is added after the print time is spread across the printers.

How parallel machines affect the production schedule.

What is the difference between machine hours and production time?

Machine hours are the combined run time of all printers. Production time is the estimated elapsed time after that work is divided by the number of printers and setup is added.

Will adding printers reduce total cost?

Not in this calculation by itself. More printers reduce estimated elapsed time, while total expected machine hours and their operating cost remain the same.

Can I include printers with different speeds?

The calculator assumes comparable printers. For mixed equipment, use a weighted planning estimate or model groups of printers separately.

Why may work not divide evenly between printers?

Part geometry, build capacity, queue order, maintenance, and different job durations can prevent perfectly balanced scheduling.

Accuracy depends on the quality of the entered print time, material use, failure rate, material price, and machine hourly cost. Treat it as an estimate.

Are labor costs included?

No. Add labor for setup, monitoring, post-processing, inspection, and packing separately if needed.

Are post-processing costs included?

No. Washing, curing, support removal, sanding, painting, machining, and similar work are outside the calculation.

Should I include electricity in machine cost per hour?

You may include electricity and other printer-related operating costs in the hourly rate if that matches your costing method.

Does the calculator account for downtime?

No. Expected maintenance, failed hardware, material changes, and unavailable printers should be considered separately in a production plan.
