How it works
The calculator first estimates the storage used by one project: the original model file plus its saved sliced files. It multiplies that figure by your model count, then multiplies again to include the active copy and any additional backups. Your one-year growth estimate is applied to that total. Finally, the result is converted from MB to GB and increased by 25% so the storage device is not filled to its limit.

Frequently asked questions
What files should I include in 3D printing storage calculations?
Include original model files such as STL, 3MF and OBJ files, sliced G-code files, project files and any versions you intend to keep. Large render files, photographs and videos should be estimated separately if you archive them.
Why does the calculator add storage headroom?
Storage works best when it is not nearly full. The calculator adds 25% after projected growth to leave room for new files, temporary files and normal variation in file size.
Should I save G-code files as well as STL or 3MF files?
Saving G-code can be useful when you may want to reprint with the same printer and slicer settings. However, G-code can be printer-specific, so keeping the original model and slicer project is often useful too.
How many backup copies should I use for 3D printing files?
The right number depends on how important the library is and where copies are stored. This calculator lets you compare the capacity impact of keeping no extra copy, one backup, or several copies.
Why is my actual storage use different from the estimate?
File sizes vary widely by model detail, mesh format, embedded textures, slicer settings and whether you keep duplicate versions. Use an average from a sample of your own files for a closer estimate.
Is 1 TB enough for a 3D printing file library?
