How to select values for the calculation.

Should I enter bitrate in kbps or Mbps?

Enter kbps. For example, 2.5 Mbps is 2,500 kbps and 4 Mbps is 4,000 kbps.

What is average watch time per user per day?

It is the expected daily minutes watched by each participant during the test.

What happens when Variant B traffic is 0%?

All participants are assigned to Variant A, so total delivery equals Variant A per-user data multiplied by total users.

What happens when Variant B traffic is 100%?

All participants are assigned to Variant B, so total delivery equals Variant B per-user data multiplied by total users.

Calculation and units

How the calculator converts viewing time and bitrate into data.

How is watch time converted?

Daily watch minutes are multiplied by 60 and by the number of test days to get watch seconds per user.

Why is bitrate divided by 8?

Bitrates are stated in bits, while data volume is commonly expressed in bytes. Eight bits equal one byte.

Does the calculator use decimal GB?

Yes. One GB is treated as 1,000,000,000 bytes.

How is average data per participant calculated?

It divides total estimated test data by the total number of participating users.

Accuracy and limitations

Reasons real delivery can differ from the estimate.

Does adaptive bitrate streaming affect accuracy?

Yes. Viewers may receive different rendition levels, so actual average delivery bitrate may differ from the value entered.

Does the estimate include CDN or player overhead?

No. It covers video payload only and excludes overhead such as manifests, retries, analytics, and ads.

Does this calculator measure quality or experiment outcomes?

No. It estimates data transfer; it does not evaluate video quality, engagement, conversion, or statistical significance.

Can user behavior change during the test?
